Why do we have to protect the ground prong?

Many people realize that their electrical appliances work fine with a broken ground prong, so they decide to ignore the fact that it is broken and they keep on using it. The ground prong is there for a reason: to protect you from an electrocution. If a wire inside of an ungrounded tool becomes loose, it touches the metal part and becomes hot. If anyone touches the tool, while the metal and wire are hot, they may get a potentially fatal shock. On the other hand, if your tool is grounded, the electricity from the hot wire flows straight to the ground and trips the fuse to prevent a shock.

So remember, protecting your ground prong protects you from potential electrocution.
